Pidgeons of Great Yarmouth  (3)

After William Pidgeon was widowed in 1799 he married Elizabeth Davy (nιe Allington).  When Elizabrth died in 1806, leaving William with several young children to bring up, it is thought that at least one of them was farmed out to relatives in London, which explains why Joseph James was described as “of St Giles” in the marriage register.

Joseph James Pidgeon and Elizabeth Cook Sheppard and the bulk of their family remained in Great Yarmouth, and it wasn’t until the late 19th century that some of them moved away.  Their sixth child Samuel Sheppard Pidgeon moved to London about 1870 and was followed by some of his younger siblings.
