The Pidgeons of Guilford County, North Carolina, USA

Isaac Pidgeon married Sarah Milhous, probably about 1760 to 1765, and possibly in either Pennsylvania, Virginia or South Carolina, USA.  There is evidence that both may have come originally from Ireland, although their great-grandson claimed that Isaac had come from England.  What is certain is that they arrived with two sons and a daughter at the Quaker monthly meeting of Deep River in the county of Guilford, North Carolina, and they came from Fredericksburg (also known as Camden), South  Carolina.

This was a family of farmers, farming the land for many generations wherever they went.  They were also members of the Society of Friends, or so-called Quakers, many of whom first settled in Pennsylvania, before moving south to Virginia and the Carolinas.

In 1831 one of Isaac’s grandsons Isaac Marion Pidgeon senior left North Carolina and took his family to Illinois.  In 1835 they crossed the Mississippi River and settled at Salem in Henry County, Iowa.  (See the Pidgeons of Henry County, Iowa family tree).
