The Pidgeons of Stanton & Shawbury

Humphrey Pidgeon was born at Upton Magna in 1580 (see the Pidgeons of Upton Magna family tree), and died at Besford in 1658.  Besford is close to the village of Stanton upon Hine Heath, and this was probably where he was married and his children were baptized.  Unfortunately, the surviving parish records of Stanton only start in 1636, so the only clues to who his early descendants may have been come from the family wills.  Later, the family spread to the village of Shawbury about 2 miles south of Stanton (where surviving parish records start in 1561).

We know that Humphrey had at least two sons Thomas and William.

Thomas settled at Stanton, and his granddaughter Henrietta Pidgeon was born there.  In 1736 she married William Pidgeon from nearby Shawbury.  This William was probably the grandson of Thomas, the married couple being, therefore,  second cousins.

The initial research for these families was contributed by Carol Oakley, and the tree was originally a part of the Shropshire-1 tree.
