The PIDGEONs of Thorncombe – Chard & Monmouthshire branch

Daniel Pidgeon was born at Thorncombe in 1831, the son of Henry Pidgeon and Elizabeth Quintin (see the PIDGEONs of Yarcombe & Thorncombe family tree).  Daniel married Jane Hicks and for many years they continued to live at Thorncombe, but about 1876 or ‘77 they moved, with their family of seven children, to the town of Chard, about 5 miles to the north-west.

Family lore says that their son Richard deserted from the army before he settled in South Wales at Pontypool.  There he married Mary Jones, a widow whose first husband was said to have been hanged for the murder of a young girl.  Richard was followed to Monmouthshire by his younger brother Frank and sister Bessie, but by 1906 Bessie and her husband Alfred Bulgin (if they ever married) had returned to Chard.  Many of the descendants of Richard and Frank continue to live in this part of South Wales.

Contributors:  Basil Pidgeon, & Debbie Howells of Abertillery, South Wales.
