The Pidgeons of Warrington, Lancashire

John Pidgeon was born in 1825 at Upton Magna, Shropshire, the son of Edward Pidgeon & Eleanor Cheshire (see the Pidgeons of Upton Magna branch-1 family tree).  As a teenager he worked at nearby Haughmond Abbey, and afterwards went to Kingswinford, near Brierley Hill in Staffordshire.  It was there that he met and married Elizabeth Jones in 1849.  They lived in Kingswinford for over 20 years, and all their children were born there, but in the 1870s the almost all of the family moved north to Warrington where many of the men found work in the iron works and the women in the cotton industry (as fustian or velvet cutters).

There was another Pidgeon family in Warrington “from Shropshire”, after John Pidgeon left Wellington in the 1890s and married Sarah Weigh from Dudley.  For that family – see the Pidgeons of Stanton & Shawbury.

Note:      ab. = about,  b. = born,  bp. = baptised,  bu. = buried,  d. = died,  m. = married,  (+) - extramarital relationship
