PIDGEONs of County Mayo, Ireland

Almost all known Pidgeons of County Mayo lived in or near the town of Swinford. However, the parish records are incomplete (baptisms 1822-26 and 1841 onwards, marriages from 1808, no burials), with civil records available only from 1864 onwards, and no surviving 19th century census returns, so it is impossible to properly relate all the early Pidgeons. Many of the people born after 1808 may be the children of any of those married before 1808, and there may be several other unknown children born before 1841.

A birth shown as ‘b.ab.1785?’ is a guess; whereas one shown as ‘b.ab.1848’ (without the ‘?’) is based on an age given at marriage, death or in a census.

Many of these people left Ireland and settled in England, Canada or the USA. These are shown on separate family trees, as indicated.
