PIDGEONs of Henry County, Iowa, USA

Isaac Pidgeon was born at Springfield, Guilford County, North Carolina into a family of Quaker farmers. (See the PIDGEONs of Guilford County, NC family tree.) In 1831, together with his sister Achsah and her husband Solomon Stanley, Isaac and family left Springfield and trekked west to Rushville in Schuyler County, Illinois. There he had hoped to meet his sister Prudence and her husband John Horney, but when they arrived 52 days later, they discovered that the Horneys had left and returned east to Indiana.. After a year at Rushville and another 3 years near Plymouth in Hancock County, the Pidgeons crossed the Mississippi River in 1835 and were one of the first families to settle at Salem in Henry County, Iowa.
