PIDGEONs of Honiton, Devon (John)

John PIDGEON and Ann HODY were married in 1732 at Hawkchurch, Devon where two of their five children were baptised. But they went to live in Honiton and this is where all their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born. Their youngest daughter Betty married William FILDEW in 1767 and, with 10 children, they founded a large FILDEW family.t

It is not known where John Pidgeon was born. He was a cordwainer, or boot- and shoemaker. This trade was passed down to his grandson Samuel, then his sons and grandsons became tailors, carpenters and braziers. Many of them left Devon in the 19th century for London.

Main contributor: Basil Pidgeon. Additional contributions: Peter WALLIS, Sarah PIDGEON, Roland ARNOTT, Greg JENKINS, Amanda RUNCIEMAN and Sophia DUNLAP.
