Irish PIDGEONs of Quebec, Canada (Manus)

Manus Pidgeon of Cranard married Mary Garaghty at Swinford Parish, County Mayo, Ireland in 1827. (See the Pidgeons of County Mayo family tree.) They had a couple of children in Ireland, possibly at Swinford where the baptism records between 1826 and 1841 are non-existent, but by 1834, when their third known child was born, the family had emigrated to Canada. At first, they lived at Saint-Sylvestre, in a growing Irish community about 30 miles south of Quebec City. Later they moved to nearby St-Ferdinand-d’Halifax.

Manus Pidgeon may have had a brother or cousin Patrick Pidgeon, whose son Patrick emigrated to Wisconsin, USA around 1850. This is based on Y-DNA test results of Stephen Pidgeon and a descendent of Patrick. (See the Pidgeons of Wisconsin family tree.)
