PIDGEONs of Stockland (Samuel)

Samuel Pidgeon was born at Stockland, Dorset (see the Pidgeons of Stockland family tree), but married Elizabeth Milton at Bristol. They lived at Bedminster (south of Bristol) for a few years before settling at Wrington, Somerset – about 9 miles east of Weston-super-Mare.

In the late 1860s their daughter Jane enjoyed romance with young Thomas Selvey from nearby Portishead. Jane’s mother Elizabeth disapproved of Thomas, so when she became pregnant her twins were born out of wedlock. One of the twins Elizabeth Blanche married William Rawle and gave birth to eight or nine children. Around 1910 Elizabeth Blanche was attracted to the Mormon Church while living in Bristol. Subsequently, in the 1910s, she and many members of her family emigrated first to Canada, and then to the USA, settling in Idaho and Salt Lake City, Utah where their descendants live today.

Jane, herself, eventually met and married the elderly and widowed Charles Wetherill, a famer from Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. Their four children and their descendants settled in this area of Yorkshire and Teesside.
